Where All Gifts Are Under $5
I recently lost my job, before I was lost my job my husband and I were more than comfortable money wise, but we didn’t save as we should have. And he drives more than an hour to work everyday. We have a mid size sedan, should we trade it in and get something more fuel efficient and just add the rest of the payments on the current car to the new one? Or is there easier ways to save than we are seeing? We have completely cut out any unnessacery spending but gas is just eating at us right now.
One Response for "I need some advice on budgeting?"
The only way this would make sense is if you can sell your car privately for a good price (for example on http://www.craigslist.org ) and buy one that’s both more fuel efficient AND cheaper (again, look for private sales of used cars).
A few other things to improve your fuel efficiency in the meantime:
- Remove any unnecessary weight. I used to keep all kinds of junk in my trunk, and it really hurt my gas mileage.
- Check the tire pressure weekly or even daily.
- Tune up the car. If you haven’t done this in a while, it can make a difference.
Also, is there any chance your husband could car-pool with other people at his office?
BTW, one really good site with lots of ideas for saving money and budgeting is http://www.stretcher.com It was a huge source of ideas and inspiration when I graduated college with a bunch of debt.
Good luck to you!
